Terpenes (0)

The terpenes in hemp are responsible for most of the therapeutic properties, taste, and aroma. They are not only found in hemp. They can be found in many plants. You can also find them in mint, violets, cinnamon, and many, many more. As I mentioned at the beginning, they are responsible for the taste, aroma, and therapeutic, i.e., healing properties. Hemp terpenes are not psychoactive. Their task is to emit an extremely intense scent. When it comes to those found in cannabis, we have several:

  • Mircene - This monoterpenic chemical remains the leading, most abundant ingredient in cannabis essential oil.
  • Pinen - used, inter alia, in the perfume industry. It has unusual fragrance features.
  • Limonene - here also a compound responsible for the fragrance, it is used in the perfume industry, e.g. in the production of air fresheners.
  • Linalool - lily of the valley fragrance, perfume production and insect repellent.
  • Eucalyptol - Used mainly as an ingredient in fragrances and care products. Its minty smell is very distinctive and is often used in essential oils.
  • Caryophyllene - Its aromas oscillate around spicy, peppery. Responsible for the smell of e.g., cloves. It is a terpene that has the highest curative properties.

It is worth mentioning that the terpenes contained in cannabis combine with cannabinoids to strengthen the effect and increase the absorption of CBD.
